Moon Phases Etc.

If you like to hike at night as we do, you more than likely prefer to schedule that hike around a full moon, or near-full moon.  The information below, presented in calendar format, will give you information regarding these phases as well as Moonrise and Moon Set times.  Simply click on the appropriate calendar to enlarge it for full information. We have chosen to use the Great Smoky Mountains National ParksOconaluftee Visitor Center in Cherokee, NC (Latitude, Longitude: 35 30.9′ N, 83 18.3′ W) as the base-line.  The GSMNP is in the Eastern time zone.

We have also found these calendars useful when updating our hiking logs from notes made “on the fly”.  For example, we may have noted something that happened during the full moon in July.  By referring back to the calendars we can easily find out what night(s) there was a full moon.

The time used in these calendars is 24 Hr Clock Time.  0000 = Midnight / 0600 = 6:00am / 1200 = Noon / 1800 = 6:00pm / 2400 = Midnight.  If you have trouble with this click HERE for a free conversion chart.
