Sunrise – Sunset Times

Over the years a large number of hikers have asked us, “What time does the sun come up?” or “When does it start getting dark?”, so we have decided to put that information here in calendar format.  Now you will have a place to quickly find that information.  Simply click on the appropriate calendar to enlarge it for full information.  The times shown are applicable to the Great Smoky Mountains National Parks’ Oconaluftee Visitor Center in Cherokee, NC (Latitude, Longitude: 35 30.9′ N, 83 18.3′ W) which is in the Eastern time zone.   Included in this information are the times for dawn, evening twilight, and length of day.

For information on Moon Phases, including Moonrise / Moonset times click HERE.

Note: “Twi” = Twilight.  The upper Twi entry is when the first light of day becomes visible, i.e. Dawn.  The lower Twi entry is when all light (except moonlight) is all but gone from the sky.  Time used is 24 Hr Clock Time.  0000 = Midnight / 0600 = 6:00am / 1200 = Noon / 1800 = 6:00pm / 2400 = Midnight.  If you have trouble with this click HERE for a conversion chart.
